2002–2026
Last week, we lost Komronbek Avezov, a fellow on our Chapters team at Climate Cardinals. He was 24.
Komronbek was based in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. He dedicated his life to creating opportunities for other young people and building a fairer, greener future.
He helped establish Tajikistan’s Youth for Water and Climate Network with UNICEF, serving as its Regional Coordinator. He also served on the organizing committee of the Regional Conference of Youth for Central Asia, advised the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Tajikistan on youth initiatives, and championed gender equality and human rights across the region. He was preparing for COP31.
Komronbek joined our Fellowship this fall. We had only just begun to know him. Those who knew him remember his energy, creativity, kindness and unwavering belief in the power of young people to make a difference.
His friend Shahnoza Rakhmanova shared:
“He has done so much for so many causes in 24 years. His passing is an enormous loss for the climate movement in Tajikistan and Central Asia. He was a catalyst not just in his country, but in any team. He pushed us to envision and act on the greener and safer world for the generations to come. His heart was big enough to care and advocate for all kinds of topics: climate, human right, glaciers, water, gender equality, mental health, animal welfare and more. I know, that if only he got more time on this Earth, he would have done so, so many more great things.”
His family and friends hope his story and legacy will live on. We invite you to share his story, remember his contributions and carry forward the causes he cared so deeply about.
Our deepest condolences go to his family, friends, colleagues and everyone whose life he touched.
