Maya Xuereb

Regional President: Europe

Maya Xuereb is an MLitt candidate in Security Studies at the University of St Andrews and leads the Europe division at Climate Cardinals. Her research delves into the gendered aspects of resource security in the Middle East and Central Asia, informing her work at Climate Cardinals, where she is organising a conference on water security with the Third Generation Project and the Asia Scotland Institute.

Beyond her role at Climate Cardinals, Maya interns with the University of St Andrews’ Research Institute of the Middle East, Central Asia, and the Caucasus, serves as a student delegate for UNCSW69, and is a student ambassador at the Asia Scotland Institute, reflecting her commitment to cross-cultural understanding and sustainable development. She has completed internships with BlackRock and the Royal Bank of Canada, worked with the non-profit One Scotland, and initiated programs promoting female financial literacy, which had her nominated by Barclays and Girls Are INvestors (GAIN) as the 2024 Student of the Year.

Ultimately, Maya’s work with Climate Cardinals is underpinned by a drive to lead collective action on climate resilience and gender equity, empowering communities to thrive through education, advocacy, and cross-cultural collaboration, shaped by her international background.
